(October 15, 2009) Alhambra Preservation Group (APG) honored four homeowners with 2009 Heritage Home Awards at its general membership meeting held on October 15 at a beautiful Arts & Crafts-style home in northeastern Alhambra. The award-winning homes showcase the diversity of architectural styles found in Alhambra: two stunning Arts & Crafts bungalows, a picturesque English cottage and a stately Spanish-style home. An impeccably restored two-story Arts & Crafts home received the top honor, the Katherine Hildreth Memorial Heritage Home Award, named for the late Katherine Hildreth, one of APGs co-founders. The annual APG Heritage Home Awards recognize homeowners who have restored or maintained their homes in a manner that is sensitive to their architectural period and style and that recognizes their value to the community, stated Christine Olson, Alhambra Preservation Group Vice President. APG is proud to honor these homeowners whose efforts preserve the historic nature of Alhambras neighborhoods, continued Olson. |

Alhambra Preservation Group members, along with friends and families of the honorees, were present at the membership meeting to celebrate with the winners. In addition to a beautifully framed award, the honorees were given lawn signs to identify their homes as 2009 APG Heritage Home Award winners. One recipient of the award "was truly honored" while another was overheard saying, "we've lived here for over 30 years and we've never received this type of recognition before!" Also at the October meeting, Alhambra Preservation Group announced its Fall membership campaign, now under way, and suggested a household membership (available for as little as $20 per year) as a unique holiday gift idea that honors both the recipient and the community. APG members receive a membership card (good for reduced pricing on selected activities or events), ongoing e-mail updates and a copy of the 2009 Resource Guide, a comprehensive listing of home improvement/ restoration resources, contractors and vendors. Funds raised through the annual appeal will work to further APGs mission of protecting and preserving Alhambras architectural resources through education and advocacy. APG was established in 2003 by Alhambra residents eager to promote and protect Alhambra's rich and historic architectural heritage. The organization received nonprofit status in 2007.
