The proposed demolition of 315 S. Fourth Street radically changes the face of the neighborhood as indicated by the homes immediately surrounding it shown below.
Two homes to the north is 305 S. Fourth and is a wooden clapboard home (above) as is 319 S. Fourth (at right) which is immediately next door to the south..

This home directly across the street (324 S. Fourth) is an early 1920's home and is in excellent condition. Just north are the basketball courts of Alhambra High School which allows for a spectacular view of the San Gabriel Mountains.

The home shown above is three houses down from 315 and appears to have been built sometime between 1909 and 1912.

Another home (circa 1910) covered in stucco.
Despite having been covered with stucco, this turn-of-the-century home still retains its Victorian features.

This 1915 home was restored by the current owner after being told by the City of Alhambra that "it was not worth fixing" and would be more cost effective to simply tear down.
Despite ridiculous demands by the city in discouraging the owner from restoring the home (such as installing a large, red fire alarm at the front of the home), the owner instead went ahead and carefully restored it using period-specific colors.

WIDE ANGLE STREET VIEWS:

These wide-angle shots (taken by Bert Ng) show the overall character of the neighborhood.
Just north of the proposed demolition is a 1930 Spanish Mediterranean home which fits in well with the other homes.

NEXT STREET OVER: 300-400 S. FIFTH STREET

| The next street over (Fifth Street) also has many pre-1930 homes in excellent condition as well as shaded lawns and large shade trees. |
